The School of Management traces its origins back to 1953 when the Department of Economics was established within the Coal Mining Department of the original Beijing Mining College. Over the years, the school has undergone significant development milestones: enrolling its first undergraduate students in 1954, graduate students in 1955, establishing a doctoral program in Management Science and Engineering in 1986, and beginning to admit doctoral candidates. In 1997, the school was granted the qualification to offer an MBA program as part of the third batch nationwide, and in 1998, it was approved to establish a post-doctoral research station in Management Science and Engineering. In 2009, it became the only institution in the energy industry authorized to admit students for the Executive MBA (EMBA) program. In 2011, the school was approved to offer master's programs in Engineering Management (MEM) and Accounting (MPAcc).
After more than 70 years of development, the School of Management has evolved into a dual-focused institution emphasizing both moral education and talent cultivation, with a balanced approach to teaching and research. It is now a key base for training high-level management professionals in the fields of energy economics and safety emergency management, as well as a research hub for sustainable development.
